Attending a sporting event, catching up with a friend, and eating a tasty meal were just a few of the responses students at Manheim Township High School gave when encouraged to stand up in front of a microphone and discuss something that recently made them feel good. All of these answers seemed to have a common denominator; all of them were ordinary moments, and that’s a great thing!
As the semester wraps up, many students are overwhelmed by midyear assessments, busy schedules, and cold weather. These stressors can distract them from what brings them joy, so it is crucial to reflect on the positives, even if they might be minor, as a way to maintain a balance. That is why the Aevidum club at Manheim Township decided to organize the microphone project. The project was designed to help students take a break from their worries and acknowledge the positives in their lives.
When asked about the project, Gabby Osborne, a junior and Aevidum’s secretary, said, “It’s mainly about creating space for positivity and connection. Asking people to reflect on something good helps shift focus away from stress and negativity and highlights small wins that often get overlooked.” Abby Marquette, a senior and Aevidum’s president, said, “We were really looking to get the school more engaged with the club and put the name of Aevidum out there. We also wanted to see some more engagement on our social media, and uplift the student body in general during these cold winter months!” This activity was a creative way to have student participation, while still popularizing the club. Rosa Schwartz, a junior and the vice president, expressed, “I was amazed at all the people who participated. Some of the positive moments shared were quick, but it still showed how little moments matter. I am happy we got to provide a space where people felt comfortable sharing. Overall, it was nice to see students excited and thinking positively!”
The Aevidum officers were able to help manage the uneasiness this time of year brings in a phenomenal and interactive way! Their efforts made a meaningful impact. In the future, I am certain that they will accomplish great things in their club. So, reader, I challenge you to take a moment to look back on your week and highlight anything that made your day!
